Storytime

Storytimes for children ages 5 and younger are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the year. Adults must accompany their children. Storytimes are free and are generally drop-in attendance (no signups). For a full schedule of storytimes and other children's activities, please see our Events Calendar.

Fall Schedule

Storytime

10:30am, Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Storytimes for children ages 3-5. Adults must accompany their children. Storytimes are free, do not require a library card, and are generally drop-in attendance (no registration).

Please note, Storytime themes change weekly. Classes during the same week will feature the same stories, songs, and activities on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Stay & Play

11:00am, Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Stay and play for 30 minutes following Storytime (participation in Storytime not required to attend). We will have toys, puzzles, activities and crafts for children and parents to enjoy. Adults must accompany their children. Great opportunity for parents to meet others in the community. Activities and toys are geared for children ages 3-5 but siblings may attend. Free! No registration is needed!

Toddler/Baby Storytime

11:30am, Wednesdays**

Geared for children between the ages 0-2 years. Parents are required to attend with all children. Classes will include stories, songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and time to play. No library card is required to attend, no registration is needed! Just drop-in.

PLEASE NOTE: Storytimes are changing from Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. to Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. beginning November.

Summer Storytimes are held in June and July and are free for all age groups, but do require registration. Children younger than 3 may participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.

Summer Story Times (ages 3-6) are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Adults must accompany their children. There is no "Stay & Play" during the summer.
Big Reads (ages 7-9) are held on Wednesday mornings. Adults should remain in the building during Big Reads, but do not need to attend with their children.

Registration Instructions (2024)

Please read all 5 steps carefully.

1. Registration opens Monday June 3rd at 10am.

Registration fills quickly. There are small waitlists for each session, but waitlisting does not guarantee attendance.

2. Choose a session from 2 age groups:

Note: The first sessions listed below are the most likely to fill quickly. You may be able to find events with openings by visiting the events calendar directly (https://www.brighamlibrary.org/events?r=days&n=61&t=story+time) and registering for later story times that are not full yet.

To view or modify your registration(s), please go to https://brighamlibrary.org/myevents or contact the library during regular hours. If you cannot attend a session you have registered for, please cancel the reservation so that others on the waitlist may attend.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

This free, self-paced program helps adults read to their children, ages 5 and younger. The goal is to finish 1,000 books before a child begins Kindergarten. Kids get prizes from the library for every milestone.

How to participate

Read to your child. Studies have shown that reading together promotes bonding and strong relationships. You create lasting memories of this time.
Keep track of the books you read. Use a tracking sheet from the library.
Bring the completed tracking sheet back to the library. Children receive rewards at each milestone and get to add stickers to the "Reading Train". When you complete 100 books, pick up a new tracking sheet to continue.
When your child completes 1000 books we will add their name to our “Reading train” display for recognition.

Does that seem overwhelming?

If you read just 1 book a day, that would be 365 books the first year, 730 books by the second year and 1,095 books by the end of the third year!

You may re-read books, you can begin any time, and you may read more than one book per day. Any time your child hears a book read aloud can be counted: storytime at the library, listening to a sibling read, a baby-sitter, grandparents...anyone!
